What is an apprenticeship?

Information for learners

Earn while you learn - and gain skills for life

At Progress to Excellence we place our learner needs at the heart of what we do. We will support you from the first day all the way through to completion of your training and beyond.

Apprenticeships are available to anyone aged 16–64 and are a great way to upskill yourself, earning whilst you learn. Research has found that employers think apprentices are 15% more employable than those with other qualifications (DfE Apprenticeship Core Brief, 2016), so you can rest assured that an apprenticeship is the right decision to make.

The job

It is important for us to work with quality employers so learners get the most out of their Apprenticeship. You should ideally be working 30-plus hours per week, but there are certain circumstances where this can be reduced, for example, if you have childcare responsibilities or other personal commitments.

We want you to achieve

Our team of assessors are on hand to guide you through your qualification through a combination of face-to-face appointments, telephone consultations and our e-learning system.

There are three levels of apprenticeship you can study depending on your current skills and qualifications:

  • Intermediate
  • Advanced
  • Higher

Apprenticeships take between 12 and 24 months to complete depending on the level. Towards the end of your training, we’ll talk to you about your progression options and next steps.
